SLIT is pleased to present “SLIT PROJECT #1”, Parker McComb’s solo exhibition <Facing: Identities> on view from September 17 to October 18, 2021.
The exhibition features the image of enduring anxiety and pain caused by a missing sense of belonging and lack of communication.
The artist explores how to face identity in a way that processes the emotional response to the relationship he has and his surroundings. He captures purifying moments of psychological isolation, depression, anxiety, and the uncertainty of self, creating an ever-evolving identity. His photographs, using unfamiliar props for symbolic meaning, create tension at first glance, yet they capture a place that gives comfort and stability with natural light.
The artist uses a mask to project his emotions into the subject's identity. A mask is used as a tool by covering one's unique look and facial expression; this leads to a question of what is an authentic identity. Without focusing on the subjectivity of emotions, he would like to convey a story that people who share similar feelings would sympathize with and understand.
